Tour bus arrived late. Tours were cut short, yet there was extra time left over after the tour with no agenda and nothing to do besides sit on the bus and wait to leave. Overall a very unpleasant experience and a waste of a day in Paris. It felt as if the the two Champagne houses we visited were only chosen because they were in partnership with the tour company. The tastings were merely that - a tiny sip of Champagne with no added experience above a hurried splash of wine into 50 glasses set up for the busload of tourists. The tour felt hurried, as if we were being herded like cattle. Note that you will NOT tour a vineyard. You will only be bussed from one tasting room to another. Our guide wasn't the most pleasant guide. The drive back into Paris takes about 3 hours. The vast majority of time spent on this tour was on the bus. I would highly advise against this tour. If you must, take a TGV to Reims and do it on your own. Save money, visit better Champagne houses, and have a better experience.
This excursion is simply not worth it's pricey price tag. The first stop of the excursion was enjoyable, mostly because the tour guide seemed knowledgeable. The second excursion began with us watching a video then took us on a 5-minute walk to look at some of the machinery used in champagne-making over the years, but really gave us no new information that wasn't provided in the first tour. Neither venue had hosts that took the time to describe the champagne as far as what flavors were on the palate nor was there any discussion about food pairings. As such, calling this a
Tour left earlier than stated, so we missed the bus. The company was inflexible and unwilling to accommodate us on any other similar tour during the remainder of our time in Paris multiple days, so now we're out several hundred. Definitely would not recommend, it's just a big tour company that doesn't care about your experience. Set triple alarms because if you're not more than 30 minutes early they'll leave without you apparently!
We were collected at 7:10 a.m. at our hotel, as paid for, boarded the bus at Pyramids, and had a good drive to Reims. The young gentleman at Mum was personable, but a bit difficult to understand. He needed to work on his English. The tour was excellent. We loved seeing the Cathedral and had a lovely lunch in Reims before going to the smaller winery. The film was fabulous and the tour was good. The floor was bumpy and thirty steps at a time was challenging. The tasting was perhaps less professional, but more friendly, as one would expect at a smaller winery. The gift shop was more
We did this tour in late June and had a great time. It was a full bus 40-50 people but the guide was excellent. She did narration for a lot of the bus ride it's around 2 hours to get to the Champagne region. Both wineries included tours of the cellar you may want to bring a jacket - it's around 10C and generous tastings. The champagne to purchase at the Cartier stop was a bit cheaper than the GH Mumm stop, so I'd buy there. The cathedral was nice, and much less crowded than the one in Paris. We had free time to explore the town there, and there are lots of restaurants and shopping opportunities. Definitely recommend this tour. My one comment would be that the tour company could do better with organization. When we registered at the office that morning, they said we'd be taking the bus number 6. But the buses had no numbers on them. We saw a little sign with a 6 on it on the sidewalk and checked in with the bus closest to it, but when I asked the driver if this was bus 6, he said, I have no idea. Turns out it was. As well, some people had gotten coffees due to the early hour but they were not allowed on the bus with any food or drink - we were not informed prior that this was forbidden. But, strangely, they had no problem with people eating food or having beverages on the bus throughout the day.
I booked this trip through Viator as a previous tour with them in Playa del Carmen had been fabulous. While I appreciated the efforts, assistance and knowledge of our guides who were very pleasant, this tour was a disappointment. The majority of the time on this tour is spent on a bus. While the cellar tour of Mumm was interesting, after the tour we were provided one very small taste and had to choose between either the dry or the sweet and were not even offered a taste of each. The tasting glasses were immediately put away after the first taste where we were ushered to the gift shop then right back onto the bus again. The tour of the Reims cathedral was very interesting and it is an opportunity to see a cathedral without the huge crowds at Notre Dame. At the second stop in Epernay, we arrived at a cellar that was unprepared for our arrival and then were simply put in a room and shown a movie. We were allowed two small tastings at this location, however again, no interaction with any knowledgeable staff. You are allowed to walk over to the Moet location, however you are on your own to purchase a tasting or tour there at a steep price. For the price of this tour, I would have expected to have actually drank champagne. If you are nimble, I would recommend taking a train out to the region and exploring on your own for fraction of the price.
If you are in need of assistance in getting around, then this tour is for you. If there is more than one of you travelling together, your money is better spent on hiring a car and venturing through actual vineyards. We spent about four hours travelling this day in good traffic conditions for two glasses of wine. The historical component and tasting was fabulous but you could achieve this in better ways.
