Great afternoon of tasting and learning about the region and its wines. Easy to book, directions to pick up were clear and our guide was excellent (funny and informative). You visit two wineries which are quite different - and both excellent - and two little towns in the region allowing anyone without a car to still appreciate the countryside.
Great tour to learn about the wines of the region, even if you are already familiar with Italian wine. Our tour guide was incredibly personable and entertaining. Plenty of time to taste wine, take photos, and enjoy the villages. This is definitely not a small group tour, a full large bus, but that did not affect the quality of the wine tasting experience. I highly recommend this tour.
For the price of this tour, it is totally worth it. We were able to see two towns in the Chianti region and visited two wineries as well. The wine tasting was great experience and we learned a lot from the somellier. The wines were good and pretty affordable compared to the Napa Valley wines. It was amazing to be able to see Tuscany and the vineyards. Just a truly great experience. It was all worth it.
When I signed up for a wine tour, I expected an actual wine tour. Instead, the first stop we got two tastes of 4 different wines, learned nothing of the wine process and got maybe 10 minutes to”tour” the vineyard, aka - walk outside and try a grape. The second stop was at a very small town where we were told we had 30 minutes free time. The tour guide told us very little about the town and made no suggestions as to what to see during our 30 minutes. Most of the places were closed. The 3rd stop, Poggio Amorelli, was great! We actually learned a good deal about the wine process and the vineyard host did a great job of telling us all about the wines and balsamic vinegars we tasted. I did enjoy this stop. The last stop was another town which was better than the first. There was a bit more to see. If you’re looking for a “wine tour”, this is not it. I would not recommend this tour.
I can't believe so many people rated this tour as highly as they did. The tour started on time at 115 in a bus that was air conditioned. This AC did not work well enough for the beginning of July. Everyone on the bus was miserable and we were honestly worried about some of the older people on the bus with how hot it was. We had multiple stops with 30 minutes rides between each location on this hot bus. The first stop, we did a quick tasting and they didn't even let us buy a glass of wine, case or even walk around. We were basically herded in and out of the tour just to get to the next location. The wine was good and we would have liked to buy a glass. Then we had another 30 minute drive to the next location. They then dropped us off at a square and said, you have a free 30 minutes to do whatever. We went and bought a glass of wine on our own since we were supposed to be wine tasting - others grabbed food, but everyone wanted to go to another winery. We then all got back on the bus for another 30 minute ride to a true winery. We actually did a fun tasting, were allowed to buy a glass of wine and bottles to ship home. THIS WAS THE ONLY GOOD PART OF THE TOUR. We then got back on the bus, took a 30 minute drive again to another little town, walked around with zero end point, got BACK on the bus and drove to drop half of the group off for dinner and then close to an hour drive home for us. We didn't get back until 830PM without dinner or food. I would NEVER recommend this tour to anyone. There is easy ways to improve this tour- like actually just visit winerys and prepare everyone this is basically a full day tour. Good luck if you go. Especially in the summer.
We went on a tour with Eugenia. She was extremely knowledgeable and provided so much information. She was even able to answer some unrelated questions about the local vegetation. Very impressive.
We toured two wineries. The first one was small and quaint. (The wine was priced cheaper at this one!) The other was much larger. Both beautiful and provided really great tastings.
There were two stops in the middle of the tour in two small towns. The stops were very short. Be sure to have lunch prior to the tour!
Overall, well worth the money. Beautiful views that we wouldn’t have been able see otherwise. It was about an hour drive from Florence to the wineries. And our tour was amazing. She was so approachable and knowledgeable. She even walked us to catch a taxi after the tour was over. We had a great experience!
Overall, this tour is great, however, the only location out of the 4 that I would HIGHLY recommend others visit was the second winery between Greve and Castellina. This winery was generous, educational, and so fun! We were able to purchase wine, truffle oil, and balsamic and have it shipped back to the US. The guide was so funny and engaging. In addition, they gave us AMAZING cheese to cleanse our palettes. YUM.
This is a large group tour 40 people, so if you are looking for something more personal, this might not be for you.
Most of the time of this tour felt like it was on the bus during travel, and that was probably the major downside.
Other than that, I loved it and the scenery throughout the drive was GORGEOUS.
We had a great trip, even though our bus got stuck at the second winery. We were safe and happy, enjoying the wine.
My only complaint was the lack of communication about the meeting point of the tour. Central Florence left much to be desired. Thankfully my daughter was able to sort through things and figure it out.
