St Andrews

115 beoordelingen

Founded in the 4th century, the Scottish town of St Andrews is known for being home to Scotland's oldest university as well as for being the "golf capital of the world." Set on a wide bay on the northeast coast of Fife, the seaside town is surrounded by white sand beaches, including the famous West Sands.

A bit like a mini Oxford or Cambridge, but next to the ocean, St Andrew's main streets are North Street, Market Street, and South Street — they run west to east towards the ruins of the 12th-century Gothic cathedral. Dotting along the streets and down the cobbled alleyways are the university buildings, many of which date back to the 15th century when the university was founded, making it the third oldest in the Western world. Very much a student town, and the very town where Prince William and Kate met and graduated, during term time a third of the 17,000 population is made up of university students.
