Ngong Ping 360

It used to be that visitors landing at Hong Kong's airport on Lantau Island quickly hopped on the metro or hailed a taxi to Kowloon or Hong Kong Island. But with the addition of an MRT station, the establishment of Hong Kong Disneyland and a massive development project, Lantau is now home to some of Hong Kong's most popular attractions, Ngong Ping 360 and its cable car among them.

The 3.5-mile (5.7-kilometer), 25-minute cable car ride takes passengers on a journey from the Tung Chung metro terminal to the plateau at the peak of Ngong Ping, where the Big Buddha statue sits gazing out over the South China Sea. Riders have the choice of riding a standard car or a Crystal Cabin, equipped with a glass bottom. For special occasions, there's the 360 Sky Lounge, a private cabin appointed with Swarovski crystals.

Upon reaching the top, travelers disembark at Ngong Ping Village, a themed cultural area fashioned after a traditional Chinese village. Here are a few shops and restaurants, as well as two more Ngong Ping 360 attractions: Walking with Buddha and the Monkey's Tale Theatre. Walking with Buddha is an interactive museum recounting the life of Siddhartha Gautama and the origins of Buddhism, while the theater presents a kid-friendly CGI animated short.
