Deze begeleide ochtendtour is perfect voor wie Rome voor het eerst bezoekt en een ideale kennismaking met de beroemdste bezienswaardigheden. U hebt de middag vrij om de stad op uw gemak te verkennen. De belangrijkste bezienswaardigheden worden in net drie uur tijd bezocht. Bovendien wordt u tijdens het wandelen wegwijs gemaakt in de eeuwenlange Romeinse geschiedenis en hoeft u nergens in de rij te staan.

Uw tour begint boven aan de Colle Oppio met panoramisch uitzicht over het Colosseum, het meest herkenbare historische monument van Rome. Vervolgens slaat u de lange wachtrijen over en krijgt u speciale toegang tot het Colosseum. Zodra u binnen bent, neemt uw ervaren officiële gids u mee door het bloederige verleden van het amfitheater terwijl u naar verhalen van gladiatoren en nagespeelde zeeslagen en executies luistert. From here admire the views of the Roman Forum and Nero's Circus Maximus where chariot races were held. Romulus and Remus were said to have been found on the Palatine Hill by the she-wolf who nursed and raised them. The last stop is a walk along the Via Sacra or 'Sacred Way', the main path through the Roman Forum that was used for triumphal processions. Tour ends at the temple which houses the altar where Julius Caesar was cremated.

For the first time in history, the Colosseum is opening its underground level to visitors. 2011 marks the public opening of the Colosseum’s underground chambers for the very first time, as well as the Colosseum’s third tier, which hasn’t been open in decades. If you upgrade to the 8:30am tour, you’ll get special access to both areas and see Ancient Rome the way no one ever has. You’ll follow in the footsteps of the gladiators themselves as you explore the tunnels where they once prepared for fights and where lions and tigers were once caged. You’ll also go up to the highest existing level of the Colosseum – the third tier (terzo anello). This third level is opening for the first time since the 1970s. The view from the third tier includes not only a new perspective of the inside of the Colosseum, but also the surrounding Roman Forum and Palatine Hill.

Important Note 2012: The underground areas of the Colosseum are currently closed due to excessive flooding. Due to this, the "8:30am Upgrade in English" option includes 12% off recommended retail price (89 Euros) for all travel dates until February 15, 2012. We will continue to accept sales with this option so you can visit the third tier of the Colosseum with the smaller-group of 10 people. The underground may open at any time so the tour guide will notify guests upon commencement of tour.
